UK Car Market Big Changes At Ford Of Britain

After 39 years, Nigel Sharp is retiring as managing director of Ford of Britain. A recent announcement revealed that Mark Ovenden will assume this role, marking his return to Ford in Britain.

Mr. Ovenden is currently the president and managing director of Ford Russia, where he has been for nearly three years. Russia is currently the fastest growing auto market in Europe so he knows what it takes to succeed.

In March 2006, Mr. Ovenden took a position as marketing director for Ford of Britain. He is also the former brand manager for Ford of Europe, working from the Dunton technical center in Essex.

This and additional sales and global marketing experience with the blue oval should serve him well in his new role.

This sales and marketing professional is no stranger to the European market. He has held senior-level marketing, sales, and finance roles across the continent, including serving as managing director for Ford operations in Turkey, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Switzerland. Ford of Europe Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Service Roelant de Waard believes that Mr. Ovenden’s experience in a rapidly growing market and involvement in joint ventures make him the ideal choice.

Under the guidance of Mr. Ovenden, Ford has been able to strengthen both its sales and its brand. This has enabled Ford to continue its UK market leadership for both passenger automobiles and commercial vehicles.

Mr. de Waard commented that the passion, leadership skills, and business acumen of Mr. Ovenden have made a large impact on the sales and marketing teams for Ford of Europe.

With Mr. Ovenden at the helm, there will likely be more car loans taken for Fords over the coming years. As we wish Mr. Sharp well, we look forward to what Mr. Ovenden can once again do for Ford of Britain.

The auto industry is poised for a rebirth and he is there to help create a smooth delivery.
